In 2017 / 2018, I worked on concept for Rosto AD's feature film 'Mind My Gap'.
It was immensely challenging because Rosto was a very, very orininal and specific fillmmaker, with a huge and bizarre imagination. It was my job to get into Rosto's head and try to visualise what was in there. Rosto didn't want beautiful finished pictures - it was about the ideas first and foremost. A lot of my concepts were very rough sketches with scribbled notes, which we would talk about at length.
I felt that I should produce more, but realised after some time that the talking was as much part of the process as the drawing was.
It was a fantastic journey in which we became friends, and in which I've learned a staggering amount.
At 09-03-2019, Rosto has passed away. I can't describe my feeling of loss and sadness; we were still in the beginning of this journey.
I sincerely believe that this movie would have been one of the greats. I'm proud of having worked on it. RIP my friend.
